Been a while since I've used a java.
My instincts tell me you've forgotten to import a minimum of 5 classes including java.io.
I know this still works.
My experience tells me otherwise.

Yep a good shuffle is important.
I personally do a mix of power shuffles and other shuffles all at once between games.
It also helps to avoid scooping your field and individually put the cards in your deck randomly.
Oh and I don't know if you do this already but sleeve your decks.
It pains me physically to see cards get worn out.

I played my first game today and got wiped by another beginner because I drew 3 mana at the start and then got nothing for about 20 turns ))
Yeah the RNG in Magic can be especially cruel.
Just keep an eye on your land/nonland ratio as well as your manacurve and you should have better results most of the time.
