Possibly, we could go with the vanilla approach using the gamerule command. Idk though.
If I understood correctly, the only way to heal yourself without natural regeneration is
- Potions (Regeneration & Healing)
- Beacons (Requires a visit to Nether and some obsidian so we won't see this anytime soon)
- Golden Apples
So I think it would turn pretty difficult enough. I have never seen a potion in action but apparently both potions requires a visit to Nether. It's already an achievement if we can get to the Nether alive but we also have to kill Wither for example if we want that beacon working.

I'd personally like the recipe change for the glistering melons, from nuggets to ingots or a block or something.
Sure getting to the nether and obtaining a blaze rod etc is a hard task, but still the reward from it shouldn't be "unlimited" health sustain through easy recipes, as it kinda renders the whole _ULTRA_ part as moot.
Everyone has a belief system, B.S., the trick is to learn not to take anyone's B.S. too seriously, especially your own.

Well, with the sacrifice, i guess then we're playing co-operatively rather than PvP all vs all like the Youtubers did?
Yes, PvE was our main focus. Of course I don't see why someone couldn't go rogue but then the whole sacrifice to revive thing doesn't really work for that guy, maybe if someone thinks of some fitting alternative for those cases we could have that.
As for the sacrifice thing, last time we kind of just made up something on the spot, but I was thinking of having a pool for somewhat similarly difficult to gather/necessary items and amounts where we'd randomly select one when a player dies.

I like the proposal of making the glittering melons more expensive. 9 or 8 gold for 3x 2(4) hearts seems more reasonable than 8/9 of a gold bar.
8 goldblocks isnt though, thats 72 gold, more expensive per heart than golden apples. God apple would be better at that point too... Far better.

Golden apple: 4.5 gold per heart.
Extended Healing potion (nuggets): 0.15 gold per heart.
Extended Healing potion (8 gold): 1.33 gold per heart.
Extended Healing potion (1 goldblock): 1.5 gold per heart.
Extended Healing potion (4 goldblocks): 6 gold per heart.
God apple: 0.72 gold per heart. But that assumes you actually manage to heal all 100 hearts. A more practical figure would be 20 hearts healed, which puts it at 3.6 gold per heart.
I think making glittering melons cost 1 gold block and 4 gold would be a good point, if we dont make golden apples cheaper. (we should tho imo)
