Well, that just means that you need to make an effort to make connections, doesn't it? A free market is very much a meritocracy though, there is none of this 'affirmative action' crap, if you are more skilled than other people it's pretty much guaranteed you will get hired. And there is nothing stopping you from creating your own business either, and it will be easier without so many government regulations.
And appointments? Since everything is privately owned, there won't be this long waiting list, because there will be competition even among medieval practitioners ensuring that waiting times will be low and prices relatively cheap.

Sadly thats not quite the case, of course all in all its meritocratic but favouritism towards relatives or friends and their relatives is a rampant problem in a free market. Not in the buy/sell area where better products prosper (as they should) but when it comes to getting hired. A reccommendation, if it doesnt get you the spot outright, at the very least ensures that your application is being looked at - something that already puts you ahead of the common applicants who are often filtered out for arbitary reasons and never have their application being looked at. And for  the appointment, unfortunatively this is not the case either, treatment takes time, you can not make an diagnosis in just a few minutes on the first meeting. (or well,  you could  but  that'd be bad service as you're guessing at best). Time is a limited and valuable ressource. To make an more tangible example, heart transplations. Theres only so few heart donations and so many who need one, resulting in long waiting lists.

Why does a refferal or reccomentation put you earlier on that list there? Because if the person who made the refferal is influental or god forbid even sponsers you you're risking very real losses by disappointing them. As result the patient with the refferal becomes more than a number you have little to worry about.

Why is this bad? Because "making an effort to make connections" has little to do with skill or... indeed, effort. It comes down to meeting and sucking the right dick(s) by chance not what you achieve. Do you think id ever have gotten this appointment without the refferal? Or have found that one woman with all the efforts i could have poured in?

Regarding the gay marriage i have 2 different standings on it... or rather, 2 solutions id use for it.

The first one and more desirable one for me is...  Dont allow gays to marry. Instead, remove marriage being a state thing, hand it back to the church which may do with it what it wants. Fill the resulting hole with an equivalent to marriage but without the holy blessings implication, for couples (maybe not just them?) who live together and wish to stay this way. Orientation and gender of the participants is irrelevant for this, its purpose is to give a incentive to live together for long times as people living together is economically more efficent (not just for the couple but also the state too).

2... Just allow gays to marry. Who cares? Im not really seeing any reason to not allow it and even if they dont produce kids, its still of economical value to have them stably live together. Think of it this way, if we can reduce the living space needed for almost everyone* theres less need to build more houses and streets, costs you can strike from your list and neither will the state have to maintain those.
Like Aurani said, it just really isnt an important issue. Theres more pressing things to take care of - like how to deal  with the immigrants.

*Everyone is just so it doubles as explaination for my point in 1. Allowing gays to marry also accomplishes this but at a smaller s○ale. The gays aint everyone.

Or maybe they were working at their job at a fast food place, then the business owner suddenly quit and gave the ownership to them.

Sadly, thats exactly how it works... well almost. Connections and refferals are everything. See wikipedia regarding this.

I can give you a first hand experienced example... not for the workmarket but i've friends who got awesome jobs that way. So basically i was struggling getting appointments at specialized doctors, only to end up on month long waiting lists. Sounds familiar?
Right, then sometime it happened that someone with the same problem was in the hospital one of  my friends works at and they talked. Guess what happened? That woman told me of a doctor and that i should just call him and say she sent me here. I got a appointment just 2 weeks later.

Its aggrivating but its how it works in this world. That or you just already have the money to buy friends who kiss your ass.

Last time i took one i was just a smidgen more liberal. Huh.
Anyways, i  dont think those tests are a good way to judge someones standing, with some questions i answered things that would be pretty right wing while in other issues im more left...

That said, zertap looked at me in a weird way. This must mean hes up to something bad. Possibly.
He also wants to know if mafia has power roles to find out if his mafia partner is able to do anything.

Breaking down items into gems looks so effing retarded to me. Destroy this card you'd be able to  sell for  0.03$ to gain  like 5  gems. If you destroy like 200 cards this way you can gain 5 new cards which you may already have.

... Or you effing think and sell 10 cards at 0.02$ and spend the resulting 0.20$ to buy 6 cards at 0.03$ each, cards you know beforehand what they are thus wont be duplicates, ever. (that is assuming you dont have the skills to get better prices, those sell/buy values are the  respective most common offer)

Right, so breaking down cards is a very very bad idea. Lets  look what else you san  break down... emotions, profile backgrounds. Which you gain sometimes when you complete badges by collecting a full set of cards (usually around 10).
Thus, breaking down  these is even more lossy. Not only that, they dont grant any more gems when destroyed than cards and also have a far higher market price.

Do yourself a favour and learn basic economics.
