you are a fool. An complete fool for thinking that lives were more fulfilled in the past compared to today. If you were to be sent to the past, you'd get utterly disappointed.

People struggled a whole lot more, had actual existential worries, had a bigger set of borderline insane ideas and beliefs, and were much less educated. Apart from that, they were just people. Theres nothing magical about the past and the people that lived in the past. They didn't dedicate their lives 100% for one certain goal - monk style. They just lived their lives, with detours and distraction.
A difference is, that life then was much simpler than it is today. The societal framework nowadays is just much more complex than it used to be, which confuses people (including myself, like wtf).

Dying with a radical mindset at the age of 18 doesn't mean that you truly lived your life. It means you died due to your own stupidity - in most cases for nothing. Those people were shells in every meaning of the word, and shells they received.

I don't have a purpose in life either.

I just want to live until I'm tired of it, which I expect won't be soon. I enjoy the things I enjoy and avoid the things I don't enjoy. When I no longer enjoy the things I enjoy, I search for other things to enjoy.

I don't see why you would want to be born in a time where a purpose is simply given to you by some external source, be it your country that equips you with an unhealthy does of patriotism, or your local religion that indoctrinates you to follow a questionable belief-system.
I don't need these things. I just need my brain and this world, things or people that I can interact with.

You do nothing with your life? Rest assured, the vast majority of people only contributed to humanities advance in ways that negligible, you might as well say that they didn't contribute anything at all. That however, is good enough for most of us. What else is there to do? Just live your life and then die, like the rest of us.
