Re: Beatmapping Thread

The way it goes is controversial mapper>makes controversial maps>controversy> eventually maps get ranked>now no more controversy over controversial maps

Re: Beatmapping Thread

Well, all controversial maps get called bad, so it only makes sense that all bad maps are now "controversial".

Except they're not bad. The quality of maps is subjective. A lot of people like HW's maps, including me. They're fun.

Re: Beatmapping Thread

Can i dump my unfinished/work in progress collection of beatmaps that i've been accumulating?
Don't bother downloading these if you're playing standard only - they've all been mapped for osu!mania 4k specifically

Hidden text

Motorola (Hello Moto) (DUMPCORE PSYRAVE TECHNOTRONIC? just kidding it's actually the real)
Camellia - Overcomplexification (Drumstep/J-Core)
Celo & Abdi - Innenstadt Unzensiert (sbeats intifada remix) (German Rap/Juke)
Flangerouss - Sangoku is Dead (French Version) (Supa Saiyan Juke)
kyou1110 - Shaberudīesuoryōrinabi (Amenglitch)
M2U & NICODE ft. Guriri & Lucy - Myosotis (Symphonic Drumstep)
Not Mine - Skinny Jeans (Absolute Memetastic Experience) (ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE) (PERSONELL RECOMMENDATION)
t+pazolite - OMAKENO stroke (オリジナルcore)

BPM and Offset on most are wrong and i haven't been bothered to fix it

Re: Beatmapping Thread

Maybe abraker could look at those.

https://osu.ppy.sh/b/867582&m=0 I'm having fun mapping this at the moment. I think it's my best map yet (that's not saying much)

I've finished the extra, now I'm going to work down and map the another, insane, hard, normal and easy diffs. No one seems to make maps in this style anymore, with symmetrical jumps and low AR. So I guess it's up to me to make maps like that. My goal is to get some maps ranked.

Re: Beatmapping Thread

So i tried to make an tag2 map where the two players play at the same time but it ended up being unreadable even with colorcoding.

Demn. Seemed like a good idea. Like, one player plays the drum, the other the guitar.

That looks really good. I can imagine it will be even better if you were to apply some symbolic mapping to it, that is giving a certain sequence or sounds a dedicated pattern. I've also decided to mod the map a bit to see what can be done. I made a new diff called "abraker edit" where I made heavy edits to the kiai part of the map. You should see what I was going for, or at least what I mean by symbolic mapping.

There are also some inconsistencies with my patterns like the pattern following 1:16:500, which I thought was too delicate and good to mess with, so I had made an exception to how I mapped that pattern (it reverses to go the other way instead of going the same direction). Some angles and distances also need to be calculated and adjusted so all is uniform. And there were a couple parts that I spent a good hour on trying to figure out how to do correctly like the pattern at 1:24:608.

Anyway, see if you like my mod. At the very least, I hope it will give you some ideas.

I tried, but BPM doesn't seem to be my specialty. I am more of a pattern guy.

Thank, and thanks for your help. I'm not really sure what you mean by 'symbolic mapping though. Your map is interesting but you turned the kiai time into 148bpm jumps + spaced streams into 296bpm hell, lol. Maybe it'd be helpful if you pointed out specific examples.

Take a look at 01:16:500, 1:29:473 and 01:32:716. They are similar patterns that are mapped to that high pitched sound you hear. 1:23:696 and 1:25:317 are map to other sounds. The 2 sliders at 1:28:561, 1:30:182, 1:31:804 are mapped to yet another sound. I think those sounds stand out in the musical piece and make it much more memorable, and choosing to use same patterns for those memorable and repeating sounds gives the map much more meaning and binding to the music in my opinion. I call it symbolic mapping because I am literally trying to visualize what the music looks like through the patterns, and those patterns become more like symbols for those sounds you hear.

EDIT: I realized how hellish my mod is to play after testing it with relax, but the my point is to create a bit more meaning to the patterns in addition to how good they play already.

Re: Beatmapping Thread

I know what you mean but I think having diversity is more fun than repeating the same patterns for every sound.

I just finished the Another diff, it's not very polished though,

Re: Beatmapping Thread

I made another map but I'm still waiting for permission to use the MP3 and timings from the set I took it from before I upload it ):

You don't need to wait for permissions lol. I steal mp3 and timings with 90% of my maps.
