I know what you mean, I think. Humanity is too successful for our own good, with the technology we have created we've done away with all hardships, yet humans who don't have to face any challenges in their life just end up lazy and apathetic. Every generation since WW2 gets progressively worse. But don't worry, things are always changing and the age of decadence can't last forever.

A man could go into a library, read two books and come up with a fucking water organ.
You can argue that people had many more things to invent back in the day than they have today, but that is two-dimensional thinking right there. Just because you don't see the upper cap of total inventions that can be made, and can see the sheer amount of the ones made in the past, doesn't mean that it's harder to invent something in the present.

We have come far as human beings with both social and technological advancements, but looking back a thousand years ago, even a bloody mercenary could somehow contribute to mankind, by maybe finding a new way of sword fighting. Nowadays, we place ALL our resources into individuals who do all the work for us. Are you going to research kerr black holes? No, of course you fucking won't - we have proper scientists today whose jobs encompass that, right?
Today, 90% of all the people in the world are just waste - worthless, nobodies who will never contribute anything to mankind and are there just to live a routine-filled life of sleeping, eating and working. There is no thrill in interacting with people today, because we have Facebook and 55 other social networks. There is no need to hunt or even grow food, because we have other people to do it for us. We have no need for........
