I finished reading the Silmarillion about a month ago. Quite the ride, and even more fun relating it to my friends later on.
My hair is typically soft so I find people patting my head from time to time.
This reminds of this one time a dog attacked me and wouldn't leave me alone until I gave it headpats
Damn I'm tired

Pretty good right? How come we don't get that same level of world building these days?

It's just one book with a lot of different stories. Sure originally it were just a lot of seperate stories, but afaik it's only been released as a single book.

I just like to think of them as separate works because that's how they were originally intended to be and my professor always treated them like so.

I mean it was practically a lifetime of world building coming from an accomplished scholar. That's a lot to ask for. Tolkien wouldn't have even done so much of it if C.S. Lewis didn't pester him about it all the time.
My favorite part was what a bitch Morgoth was throughout the whole thing, especially when he
It even mentioned that not even the Elves sing of that because it was so sad. For the elf. But I think it was also for Morgoth.

Tolkien has a habit of making his antagonists seem like asswipes for some reason. Maybe it has a deeper meaning of how pathetic and feeble they really are on the inside.
