I'm sure it's because he wants to make it clear that there's no glory in evil. I think you're on the right track about that.

I've been thinking about reading the Philosophy of Tolkien now that I've all of Lotr and the Silmarillion under my belt, but Kreeft can be kind of an idiot sometimes in his books and you won't even realize it until a month later or something.

He's like a really devout Christian author so it might be off-putting for some. I can't say for sure, but he does get me thinking, at least.
