Well I can only speak about my own experiences. My roommates were my best buddies in boot camp and the course, but after some time many many problems started arising because of lack of communication and some disgusting things happening. The solution ofc was to sit, talk and open up about what bothers each of us and since we did it started getting really dandy, in the end we're friends and we're stuck with each other for the next two years. Regardless - I think a week is just not that long enough of a time for serious problems to actually arise is all. Especially not if you do not have to deal with money issues

I was roommates with a black girl once who was dirty as fuck and a couple of lazy white girls that didn't ever bother cleaning. The kitchen was always a wreck which attracted cockroaches and I would have some really disgusting experiences like finding a missile of shit on the side of the toilet several times(like how does that even happen?). The black girl also stank like a motherfucker; I don't even know how a human being can have such poor hygiene to the point where they made the entire house smell like them but she did it. I barely spent any time there and moved away as quickly as I could. After that experience I made sure to get a roommate that was willing to clean with me.
Reminder to be nonverbally xenophobic, it improves your life significantly to just avoid certain people based on certain criteria. You don't have to to be the asshole who lets them know first hand, you can just decide to not associate with certain people unless you have to.
