Its more lightweight. Same reason i use a music player with barely any functionality at all because those are things i've always running while i do other stuff too and want to minimize their footprint.

the only thing I'd ever consider downloading from there is the complete collection of moomin, and even then I'd much rather have findub+engsub than japshit

reviving with this collection of pc98 screenshots handpicked from tumblr by me, ive skimmed every single upload of pc98 screenshots ever uploaded to tumblr and picked the ones that appeal to me

(some of them might not actually be pc98 but i keep them in the same folder, it's like >95% PC98 only)
also they scale pretty well into wallpapers if you know what you're doing
