You see, i agree, but its still sad. Not even knowing today is "the day" of love.

Besides, it mostly depends on what you do with it. Treating your SO like a king/queen for a day doesnt neccesary needs something to be bought, how about you make something extraordinary, like, say delivering breakfast straight to the bed? What about a long walk to a beautyful place few people seem to know about? Theres a lot you can do and it wont cost you a single cent.

But really, at the risk of sounding clicheé, i belive there shouldnt be a day of love, couples and especially married people should always show their SO their affection.

Re: ITT: Pretend we are still writing in osu! OT

I think I made the day for myself instead. Made myself a rather average breakfast, but went out on a rather luxurious lunch and now that I figured out that I can just treat myself, I'll probably go to dinner as well. Who said there need to be two people involved? You can love yourself. :V

I still believe that there should be a day like this, because if we go by the logic of "who needs day x because y", we would cut 80% of holidays. Where is the fun in that?
You don't NEED any decorations on a Christmas tree, but what do you think it would look like without them? Draw the parallel between that and a year without holidays.

No, i belive you misunderstand. Many couples just very rarely do romantic things together or even go out. Why does there need to be a day to remind them?
Id argue similar things about fathersday and holidays like that.

Like, with christmas or something its more significant since thats usually stuff you wouldnt/shouldnt do otherwise.

And frankly, your argument is terrible since it applies to basically everything, so you're not proving anything. You'd need good reasons for removing holidays, not just any.

Re: ITT: Pretend we are still writing in osu! OT

I didn't make a parallel about a Christmas tree and holidays in a year because I wanted to point out how Christmas isn't needed. But if you're going to use the argument of "do they need a day to remind them of X", I can say the same about Christmas:
It's a day where you look past your grievances and treat every person around you with certain kindness. Why would you need to do it only on that day? Why not every day? It's because we made it like that. It's just a little light bulb on a Christmas tree - a day we can look forward to and enjoy and treat it in a special way.

As for the couples who never or rarely do romantic things or go out - unless you are talking about couples who have some serious work to do during most of their days (in which case it's completely fine if they only do romantic things when it's a special day), why are they even together? I sure as fuck wouldn't need someone next to me who doesn't change my life in any way.

Also, you're parodying yourself with that last line, since I answered your arguments in both this and last message by using your own.

Oh shit man, that's a bitch. I hope you're feeling better by now, being stood up like that must have felt awful.

Personally, being the loner fuck that I am, I naturally don't even know any girls, so I didn't even have the difficulty of having any commitments. Thank god for social anxiety! At the very least though, I got to give my mother's surprise valentine gift to my stepfather while they were conversing on skype, since my mother is overseas in one of those kebab countries, so that made me feel happy enough.

Well, I agree with this, it is the sort of thing that should be celebrated everyday, but us humans are flawed and lazy creatures, and life is busy. It's handy to have something there to tell people they should express their love for each other, because doing it everyday is too much work for them.

For the coffee, it's weird. I myself like bitter coffee so bad. Apparently he was also planning to buy some for me so I ended up ruining his plans. In the end I took my jar of coffee back to home, I have no regrets.

Hey, that reminds me of an asshole ex-friend I had, too. He's a closet brony and so was I. I saw plushes in a store which he had expressed a desire for, and basically came out to my mother there to get one for him. I gave him a rainbow dash one, but he instead demanded he got the Twilight Sparkle one I had wanted for myself. I had even gone to the effort of putting his plush into a box, wrapping the box in wrapping paper, and putting it into a gift bag.

I mean, it took serious willpower to come out like that, especially on such short notice, and he didn't even appreciate what I'd done for him, even if he didn't like the gift.

I don't know where I'm going with this, but just trying to empathize with you. I know the feeling, and I hope you haven't taken it too poorly.

Of course he did, right after I told him the very same thing and started crying. Guess that's his way of showing his feelings.
Though I think I kinda deserve this kind of treatment. Since this guy is THAT guy from the other time. Remember that cheating incident of mine from a couple of months ago? Our "thing" is still going on, with me suffering just a little bit.

I suppose you're right with that but still... maybe its irrational but id dislike it when people would treat each other every day like on Christmas... its just so superfluous. They're strangers for the most part.
Anyway, i get where you're coming from if you put it like that for Christmas, but whats with Carneval, Easter, the modern halloween (but i dont think the classic one of igniting hueg bonfires is a good canidate for everyway either.) and such?

I hardly think this would apply to holidays like that.

And i dont know why those couples stay together. Maybe some sentimentality where they stay together the old good days cause or something? Frankly its weird, its like, they like and even love each other but then they also dont (love i mean). But love can mean many things so who besides them themselfes could know?

Re: ITT: Pretend we are still writing in osu! OT

I'd say Easter and Halloween are fundamentally different from holidays such as Christmas and Valentine's day though. (I've completely forgotten what carneval is. I even went to a german primary school)

Christmas and Valentine's day are very personal holidays, where the focus is being together with family/loved ones, and people just think they have to buy gifts because that's the image society at large perpetuates nowadays, that the "only" way to properly express affection is with gifts from a store, because everything is getting more and more impersonal as society changes nowadays.

Easter and Halloween I've always seen more of a party. Most of the fun is had by kids, and while it's a time to enjoy yourselves, the focus isn't so much on interacting with each-other as it is on just enjoying yourselves.

It's like, you can't have a party everyday, but you can appreciate your family everyday.

So like I said, I'd agree, in the ideal world we'd have not much use for holidays such as Valentine's day, but life tends to bog us all down, and we get distracted with work and our lives, and forget to give our family and loved ones proper attention, since we tend to take them all for granted, and need a day to remind us to give affection to one another.

I don't want to talk about the rest but the past is in the past and you can't change it. that's not an excuse to treat you like that, especially if your ''thing'' is still going on.

thats kind of what i meant by pretending to like it
