Ayyyyyyyyy lmao, the mighty Gilgamesh burns up his first HDD. That's what I get for not Googling how many pins the HDD PSU cable should have..... turns out putting a 4-pin cable from a Raidmax PSU into a 4-pin hole from Cooler Master results in some nice fireworks.
Thank God it only erased my Windows with everything I had on it - not like I needed it or anything.
