Its just a example - mage has many opportunities ranged doesnt have and some spells are far superior to what is available at their time. As example, Waterbolt. Even when you dont do this thing were you get the waterbolt super early.
Or take Demonscythe. That spell trumps anything else for defensive use and deals some sick damage to boot.

Mage is not shitty at all that's true, but I also believe that ranged is fairly overpowered compared to mage. Being a ranger always works no matter which stage of the game you are in. Just get a wooden bow and you will survive the night. Or just get a shit-tier gun and you will keep shits away from you and buy some time to escape. It's pretty much about spamming bullets around. But mage is real pain in the butt during early-stage of the game until you solve the mana problem. You might find yourself in the middle of a fight doing nothing and just running for your life.

My favourite weapon is rainbow gun, killing long-ass bosses like The Destroyer feels like watching a sunset.

Honestly, that early game a wooden broadsword is all you need. Zombies REALLY aint that strong as they might seem when you only have that shortsword and your pick/axe.

But yea, Range deals the most damage of them all trough the holy power of more dakka. (Watch the noobs faceplant on expert when dakka just doesnt cut it, harr harr)

Tbh, i myself never use any guns/bows up until the Phoenix blaster (so basically a bit before you enter hardmode), till then ranged is pretty poopy. Wait nvm, the Harpoon is ranged now.

But really, what miffes me is Meele, balance wise. Its got the damage of ranged (how much damage does this one swords beams deal again? 200+?), the tankyness of meele and the tricks of mage. AND it dosnt have to worry about ressources because the Beamswords dont consume anything at all.
Why cant meele actually be meele. More swords like the Arkhalis please. (even if that one is on an entirely other level of OP for when you can get it)
