Usually I use beef tallow which is good, I just didn't have any on hand. Avocado oil sounds alright but I'm not a fan of rancid polyunsaturated oils with carcinogenic aflatoxins.
I've used both olive oil and rapeseed oil for years without any kind of smoke coming out of it, are you cooking flambé or something and trying to burn your house down? A normal pan should in no way get close to 220C+ even on the highest setting, unless you have one of those weird stoves that goes past 11 in which case you're fucking crazy.
