Yes it does because singular they is a cool and legit thing for times when 1) The gender is not known, 2) The gender hasn't been introduced, and 3) The gender doesn't matter.

It's also less cumbersome than always substituting "he or she" and isn't a silly made-up-this-year word like Xir.

You would use that, default to whatever sex you thought the person was, or word it differently. You wouldn't just make up your own definition for things. Saying 'their' makes you think you're actually referring to someone else's property.

Except I say that, I said default to whatever you thought most likely. And at least with that, at worst you're only getting the sex wrong, not messing up the actual meaning of the sentence. So no, that's not a valid justification.

I think context is enough for your example sentences of using it. There's ambiguity in languages - so what. it's far far more useful in terms of sentences like, "my friend is bugging me." "why are they doing that?"

Are you going to interrupt the flow of the sentence just to blurt out a "he or she" that is just an annoying, cumbersome phrase. i know it's a person and I don't give a shit about the gender -just use one word because it doesn't matter.
