Brian you silly goose, there're no difficulty settings on Dark Souls.

I don't like it when game's increase the difficulty by just increasing enemy health and damage.  All it does is make fights longer and require you to be more cautious.  I prefer it when they change things like make enemy AI more aggressive; add in new moves for certain enemies; change enemy placements etc etc.  Things that actually make you adapt and play the game in a more skillful way.

I agree, yeah. I don't mind increasing damage much when that can be circumvented by dodging or blocking, but making the AI smarter is even better. Seeing enemies in the Witcher stay a reasonable distance from you when putting up a certain sign or having them dodge your executions is a good example, though I don't know if they do that as a result of difficulty scaling.

one way to make a gamer harder is to add a bit more variety to the enemy ai's skills so that he can throw them more often.

hp should always be always in a strict number, not a dynamic one. this defeats the purpose of having an actual boss

Artificial difficulty, because beating on a guy for 20min instead of 10min is HAAAAARD.
Except it's just annoying as you're just throwing more shit on the wall until it all sticks.

Nintendo Badge Arcade

how dare you badge arcade is fun when you have to try your best in daily practice so you'd have any chance to get one play

And I've always found Skyrim combat fun. But if you have an overpowered character that's gonna turn the game into spamming attack while you don't need to bother blocking or dodging yourself. Try it on legendary where in some cases you have to hit a guy 100+ times while you die in 1-2 hits.

I don't know; Skyrim's combat system was never dynamic enough for it to appeal to me. Still, I do like playing at the toughest difficulty in games like Dragon's Dogma, the Witcher, or Dark Souls since the threat of insta-death at all times forces you to play smart. It's satisfying to topple foes with parries and rolls than plowing them down with mere brute strength and stats. However, even when the game facilitates such tense combat, it's always insufferable when the opponent(s) take too many hits to kill. It draws the battles out and the fact that you can die at the drop of a hat means that you can spend ten minutes trying to get past an encounter just to have to start all over again.

Go back a couple games to Morrowind, combat consisted of clicking your mouse and the computer would use your stats/stamina to determine if you hit or missed your target. Meanwhile, Skyrim's combat has attacks, directional power-attacks, blocks, staggering, dodging, shield bashes and shouts among other things that facilitate engaging combat. Skyrim has better combat, but like Morrowind it's still not primarily a skill-based game. It's more of a traditional RPG, where it's about creating and leveling your character, using different strategies and tactics to beat different enemies, rather than being executional skill. That might not be your cup of tea, but the point is that people judge Skyrim by the wrong metric.

I've never really liked that aspect about rpgs, I'd much prefer me and the enemy being on equal ground.

This is why I love stalker on master, sure the enemies die from one well placed hit but they can also kill you with a similarly placed hit.

I like to play some games with realistic health systems, other games I like the aspect of getting more powerful until I can easily kill any lesser being.

Speaking of realistic games, in Verdun most guns are one hit kills. I think I have found my calling as a German machinegunner, it's truly a thing of beauty when 3/4 of the enemy team run directly into your field of fire and you mow them down. Like what happened in WWI when commanders thought they were fighting in the previous century. Sometimes you can win the game just by having an MG in the right place.

Easy is far too easy and feels more like reading a novel than actually participating in a game, and Hard is a retarded compensation for a weak and shitty programmed AI.
There is literally nothing rewarding for me in cheesing an enemy to death, like someone said about Skyrim or in my case the best example would be Shogun 2 on Legendary.
Stalker did it best with a nicely done AI and a difficulty increase that affects both you and the enemies. Such an underrated game on so many levels.

Re: ITT: Pretend we are still writing in osu! OT

Metro 2033 and STALKER had a nice system yes, equally tanky player/enemies that either need 10 RPGs to the face or just a throwing dagger in the back depending on difficulty.
Too bad both of the series had a kinda shitty stealth system that made being sneaky a dice roll.

I cant stand making an enemies attacks hit harder = more difficult.

Make it harder to avoid. Thats where its at. As example, on higher difficulties instead having the enemy aim at you directly, have them aim at where you're going.
