Of course you're going to get downvoted for going against their opinion but there's another sub somewhere where you'd be equally upvoted for what you said.

you're right about that. but you generally get a feeling of popular opinions when posts/comments are highly up-/downvoted on /r/all

downvoting for a different opinion is pretty sad and childish. but everybody on reddit does it. that's why discussions really suck on there.
every post/comment should be taken with face value and judged individually.
